3 planes and a shuttle bus later, we made it to our air BNB. The host speaks minimal English and was in her bathrobe when we shuffled in at 8 am, but we've settled in quite nicely and hit the ground running.
After the briefest of naps, Andrew and I headed out for downtown Reykjavik. It is a truly beautiful little town, that has picturesque mountains dotting the landscape and the harbor in the forefront. The air is clear and crip, almost like a day at the beginning of fall where you struggle to decide to keep your coat on or off. Just perfect.
Our first stop was the Hallgrimskirjka church. This church was built to look like the basalt columns that are found around Iceland and hopefully will get to see on our journey here. We took the elevator up to the top for spectacular views.
Afterwards we milled about old town and checked out the Harpa opera house which features spectacular architecture. Later we went to the national museum and "learned" about Icelandic history.
Our day wrapped up with a trip to the supermarket, Bonus, and dinner and ice cream in an up and coming section of the city.
Before I completely pass out, here are some early impressions:
Everyone is so chill. They just exude cool.
The hot water smells and tastes like sulfur
The speed limits are confusing.
Sorry no pictures are able to be posted from the.blog and these apple products, but head over to facebook to see what's going on!
